  • MY WEEKEND IN AUSTIN

We have always wanted to visit Austin, mainly because we've heard so many good things about their food. I'll have to admit, our trip to Austin did not disappoint! This is easily one of my new favorite cities for the charm, murals and of course the food! We went to Austin for a few days to ring in the New Year, and below is a few of my favorite things we did and ate (and tbh, it was what we mostly ate haha) Hope you all enjoy!

    WHERE WE STAYED

    Fairmont Hotel

We stared at the Fairmont hotel for our entire visit, and it was really amazing. This is a fairly new hotel - I think has been here for about a year. The hotel is beautiful, clean and in a very good location in downtown Austin. Oh...and their pool is INSANE, plus they even have a hot tub!

    WHAT WE DID

    GREETINGS FROM AUSTIN MURAL

    WALK AROUND "SOCO" (SOUTH CONGRESS)

GO TO A SHOOTING RANGE - WHEN IN TEXAS?

The one we went to in particular is called "The Range at Austin". This was a HUGE facility. The staff was very friendly, and helpful for first timers (us). They explained everything to us, and taught us about safety. I would definitely recommend this place for those who have never been to a range before!

    FOOD

    MOONSHINE

OMG. One of the best chicken and waffles  I have ever had in my life. Hands down. DO NOT miss this place. It's actually right next to our hotel, and we decided to check it out and it was the best idea ever. They first give you popcorn to start, and then right before you actual food arrives....they give you a side of sweet and warm corn bread. I felt like I was in heaven already and this was only our first meal!

    LA BBQ

When in Texas, you have to eat BBQ. That's the rule. But boy, was the line long at LA BBQ. We waited over 1.5 hours for this but I can't deny that this brisket was to die for. I still have dreams about it. BUT I have good news for you all. You can pre-order food from them a few days ahead of time, and pick it up without lining up and still eat at the restaurant. Problem solved.

    TERRY BLACK'S BBQ
There are so many choices, and one of the more popular ones are Franklin's, LA BBQ, etc. Except those places have LONG lines, and you have to probably go super early. If you want to avoid the long lines, and go to an equally as good place, check Terry Blacks. They have delicious sides, and their meat is just absolutely amazing. This is probably my favorite meal we had in Austin!

    UCHI

Who would've though that Austin would have good sushi? We went to Uchi, a really highly rated sushi restaurant just to give it a try and again, it was amazing. This is definitely the theme of the weekend...amazing food. I would definitely recommend getting their brussel sprouts, which our waiter liked to say...LIFE CHANGING. I'd have to say, I whole heartedly agree. Their extra fatty tuna nigiri is something not to miss either for you sushi lovers.

    RAMEN TATSU-YA

We might as well continue on with our Japanese cuisine adventure in Austin, and head over to Ramen Tatsu-Ya haha! They have a few locations, but they all seem to be similar in terms of wait time. They don't take reservations, so you basically have to go there and get in line. The great thing about this place is the line goes pretty fast. You get to the front of the counter, and order your food and get seated immediately. The food also comes really fast as well. The ramen here is pretty legit, especially the egg in the ramen. Best I've tasted in a long time. The broth is also super rich, which I love.

    VOODOO DOUGHNUT

Voodoo Doughnut is originally from Portland, but they've opened a few other locations too, including Austin. We haven't been to Portland yet, so of course we had to stop in to see what the hype is all about. Is it worth the hype? I'D SAY SO. They're open 24/7, and they never run out donuts. Sounds like a dream! The fruit loop and maple bacon were my favorites!

     CLARK'S OYSTER BAR

After eating all that BBQ'd meat, we had to change it up a little bit. We decided to get some seafood at Clark's Oyster Bar. The ambiance of the restaurant is pretty trendy, and quaint. I would recommend it to couples looking for a good date night type of dinner. Someone recommended getting their linguini with clams, and I now recommend it to all of you :) The clam chowder is also very interesting. It is a bit spicy, but also very creamy which was perfect for me.
